We have lots of exciting opportunities for both Wastewater and Environmental Modeller's to join the Strategy & Regulation team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our regulators and customers. We are expanding our team to be able to effectively manage our AMP8 commitments. The roles will cover strategic DWMP modelling (drainage and wastewater management plans), river water quality modelling and sewer hydraulic modelling. Could this be you?

Our Modelling and Data team work closely with our Environmental Modelling team and alongside the Drainage and Wastewater Management Plan team to produce high quality models and water quality outputs to enable us to support the wider business to deliver key regulatory outputs.
This is a key strategic role which offers the opportunity to grow the existing team to meet the expanding work load we have in delivering the Storm Overflow Discharge Reduction plan and any outputs of the Water Industry National Environment Plan.
You will have the opportunity to develop and shape our technical guidance documents. You will work with our internal teams as well managing the technical work of our contract partners in delivering a variety of programmes of work.
We work closely with our operational and programme delivery colleagues and across a number of contract partners to ensure we deliver high quality outputs from our models and data for a wide variety of challenges across the business, where you will be able to develop your own area of responsibility and expertise.
Our teams cover both wastewater, river and water quality modelling and are looking to develop individuals which cover the full range of specialisms. We offer support and training to develop on your existing skillsets.
As our Modeller, you will support the delivery of wastewater network hydraulic models and the development and promotion of the operational, planning and strategic role that hydraulic modelling plays within Yorkshire Water. You will help us to deliver our Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) targets couples with delivering outputs to support the Storm Overflow Discharge Reduction Plan (SODRP).
You will -
- Provide effective technical support to consultants/partners, acting as Yorkshire Water's "Expert Client", liaise with and support internal and external stakeholders on issues relating to modelling/sewer network risks and opportunities.
- Contribute towards technical innovation and manage the technical delivery of designated model use and model maintenance projects.
- Ensure that models are developed, delivered and implemented within the required timescales to ensure compliance with the Yorkshire Water model standards requirements.
- Undertake model build, verification, model maintenance and scenario modelling and provide the results in a coherent format, suitable to the understanding of the audience, to support decision making across operational, planning and strategic areas of the business.
- Facilitate the production of Drainage & Wastewater Management Plan (DWMP) and Water Framework Directive (WFD) models to ensure the urban drainage models are delivered to the required quality and timescale to achieve the company's Regulatory targets.
- Support in the development and maintenance of the Yorkshire Water's urban drainage Modelling Procedures and capture of industry best practice in mathematical modelling.
- Support in providing effective technical support to asset solutions and delivery partners.
- Provide input into meeting our vision - Thriving Yorkshire Right for Customer, Right for the Environment in delivering the WFD and SODRP programme to meet our environmental targets.
- Support the Modelling & Data Team's input into the Internal Flooding, External Flooding, Pollution Incidents, Stability and Reliability Factor - Wastewater Networks, Working with Others, Stability and Reliability Factor - Wastewater Quality and wastewater elements of the SIM Performance Commitments.
What skills & qualifications you will need:
- A degree qualification in a relevant discipline including some modelling activity and/or previous experience in urban drainage modelling
- Knowledge of how sewerage systems function.
- Knowledge of wastewater asset types and the function of the sewerage system
- Competent in use of specialist modelling software, eg - InfoWorks ICM used within Yorkshire Water
- Understanding of Hydraulics and Hydraulic calculations
- A working knowledge of GIS Software
- Strong data manipulation and analytical skills, with an eye for detail.
- Self-motivated, enthusiastic team player with excellent organisational skills
- Owns and has a positive attitude to solving problems
- Able to communicate effectively through written communications, presentations and in meetings
- Develops and maintains effective internal and external relationships
